Turing’s Bombe

Turing's Bombe

A set of rotors on the “Bombe” which was a mechanical code breaking machine designed to break the German “Enigma” cypher

I took a trip to a place called Bletchley Park earlier this week. It used to be one of Britain’s best kept secrets, as it was used in the Second World War to crack the Nazi secret coded messages. As a results, Alan Turing and others developed the world’s first programmable computers (called the Colossus), which they have a working replica of there. A truly amazing and awe-inspiring place – definitely worth making the trip for.
